CityScapes - new magazine on African urbanism and city-living in the global south

CityScapes was launched last week - and you can order one for free! (see below). I have copied this from the webpage of the African Centre for Cities:

"A small event in Cape Town marked the launch of CityScapes Magazine, a new publishing initiative of the African Centre for Cities and some of our collaborators. Issue 1 of magazine will be available in wider distribution for free from the 10th October 2011. The first issue of the publication features a wide range of content that explores the dynamism, prospects and state of urbanism in the global south. Highlights include an interview of AbdouMaliq Simone by Achille Mbembe; a conversation between Edgar Pieterse and Aromar Revi about the Indian Institute for Human Settlements' ambitious programme to educate a new breed of urbanist who will influence the future of cities in India; an interview with Tangier based photographer Yto Barada,Long form reporting on how Cape Town has staked it's future prospects on being a creative city and the already visible impacts of this approach on a working class community in the city as well as reports from Lagos, Cairo, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Medellin. The issue also features a range of photographic essays and opinion pieces on issues as diverse as Djibouti's night life written by 2010 Caine Prize winner Olufemi Terry; Jessica Seddon's piece on the complexity of India's urban future and Anton Harber on the media's silent complicity in the failure of one of South Africa's fastest growing  informal settlements, Diepsloot.
